Could eternal recurrence be a cosmological theory?

A legitimate bridge exists between Nietzsche’s thought experiment and cyclic physics — but not an identity.

Nietzschean eternal recurrence works mainly as an existential test: would we live this life again in every detail? It intensifies the value of the instant. Turning it into physics requires replacing the axiological register with testable conditions about geometry, entropy, matter and cosmic evolution.

Infinite time plus finite material states may appear to favour recurrence, but the conclusion is not indisputable. State space may be continuous; accelerated expansion may prevent dynamical return; entropy supplies a time arrow; and approximate recurrence need not recreate the same macroscopic history or subject.

Bounce cosmologies, cyclic models and recurrence theorems show that the idea can take scientific form under specific assumptions. Yet no observation currently establishes that cosmic history repeats. The productive meeting between Nietzsche and cosmology is an epistemic question: what would count as the same world returning?
